Designtex Debuts New Collaboration with West Elm and Crypton

Building on a shared passion for inspiring and innovative design, West Elm and Designtex have debuted a collaborative collection of woven textiles that combines commercial performance with a residential feel. As the fourth iteration of their concerted efforts, the Designtex + West Elm 4.0 Collection integrates the combined expertise of two industry powerhouses while incorporating the performance prowess of Crypton for the ultimate in cleanability and stain-resistance. With a rich aesthetic palette, the woven upholstery styles take cues from classic textiles and mid-century fashion motifs while maintaining a bonded fabric system that renders the textiles both durable and disinfectable.

Textured and Dimensional Solids

The Designtex + West Elm Collection comprises four woven upholstery styles including Boucle Melange, Chenille Chevron, Chunky Tweed, and Corded. Offering a handsome range of textural solutions that bring a modern sensibility to classic techniques, the timeless styles are available in a variety of colorways and are suitable for an array of applications.

A textile that is both texturally rich and variegated in color, Boucle Melange is characterized by the combination of a classic looped texture and the time-tested techniques of mélange dying. The effects of this are highlighted by a heathered effect that creates a dimensional depth across an already tactile fabric. A contemporary twist on the celebrated zig-zag pattern popularized during the 1960s and ‘70s, Chenille Chevron showcases a subtly tufted fabric that captivates with a nearly iridescent appearance that accents when the pile catches the light. The visual intrigue incited by its large-scale pattern is complemented by the texture of the yarn and matched by its softness.

Featuring a free-form approach to an iconic textile construction and its predictable variations in hue, Chunky Tweed touts an understated poise while making use of a more modern sensibility that stylishly suffuses classic or contemporary spaces. With an unexpected and enticing elegance, Corded pays homage to classic charisma and character of corduroy. The fabric showcases a sophisticated plushness and a perfectly parallel wale that permits slight variations in color to further emphasize texture.

Bonded Fabric System

Bringing Crypton’s performance finishes into the mix, each of the collection’s four styles feature an integrated moisture barrier for stain resistance that is free of phthalates, carcinogens, and toxins. Making it easier to kill germs while lowering the risk of spreading infection, the addition of Crypton chemistry increases the collection’s reach and adaptability across applications in high-traffic environments that demand the ability to be disinfected.
