A heavy hitter in the game of high-performance fabrics, Crypton has established itself as a leading provider of pioneering patented textile products that are highly regarded by interior designers and architects alike. Crypton’s offerings comprise specially engineered fabrics that are embedded with advanced performance technologies, while also offering an aesthetic appeal that has allowed their applications to elevate a wide a range of environments from hospitality to healthcare, and many more in between. Since its inception in 1993, the Detroit-based company has continued to conceive intelligent and innovative fabrics that resist staining, odor, moisture, and bacteria, while correspondingly keeping a focus on achieving the lowest environmental impact possible. Crypton’s team of scientists has recently advanced the company’s core product, Crypton Fabric with moisture barrier, reducing the amount of fluorine in their formula while also increasing the focus on disinfectability and addressing a mounting concern for keeping surfaces clean.
Refining their roster of revolutionary and environmentally responsible products, the company’s latest innovations include improving the process behind their core product—Crypton Fabric with moisture barrier—a fabric that famously flaunts an imperviousness to staining. As is the case with many high-performance products, it is composed of compounds containing fluorine, which is the only substance recognized for repelling oil. Employing an evolved formula, the company’s core product now offers better performance benefits with a lower level of fluorine. With a formula that has been verified by the AATCC189 third-party testing method, the recalibrated product possesses a miniscule proportion of fluorine, measuring only 0.1 percent or less across the surface of fabric. In support of their environmentally conscious endeavors, Crypton kept this minute measurement of fluorine in an effort to extend the fabric’s lifespan. They use a preferred form of fluorine, featuring special polymers that are durably bonded to the fabric’s fibers, safely and permanently encased, and sealed to prevent migration.
The company’s evolved core product not only offers less chemistry but also boasts better performance in regards to repellency, stain resistance, durability, and a softer hand. Moreover, it still meets or exceeds the most stringent testing standards set for the contract textile industry. “Our chemistry and philosophy have always focused on performance sustainability. It’s part of our DNA,” says Crypton CEO, Lance Keziah. “Crypton was created to be the highest performing fabric in high traffic areas, one that by nature of its performance, extends its useful life. This latest breakthrough is indicative of our ongoing evolution and continued dedication. And it does not stop here.”
Disinfectable Moisture Barrier
With a recalibrated core product, Crypton’s formula for smart fabrics continues to function optimally across an assortment of high-impact spaces, with an inherent ability to inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria, fungus, and mold. Touting a trademark moisture barrier that prevents liquids from penetrating into the cushion, the core product cannot just be cleaned, it can be disinfected. Crypton’s integrated moisture barrier allows the product to be completely disinfected when used in conjunction with Crypton Disinfectant & Deodorizer, a one-step disinfectant cleaner that is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew and fungus. The EPA-registered, hospital-grade disinfectant eliminates 99.9 percent of germs with a no-rinse formula that cleans, deodorizes, and disinfectants in one fell swoop. Safe for use around children and animals, it is suitable for a broad spectrum of spaces—including hospitals, nursing homes, medical facilities, restaurants, hotels, and public transportation.
The 99.9-percent fluorine-free formula that has been integrated into Crypton’s core product was informed by knowledge acquired in the development of the company’s completely fluorine-free C-Zero technology, which was designed to repel liquid and water-based stains. In instances where 100-percent non-fluorinated materials are mandated, the Crypton C-Zero soil-repellent technology is also available with a full barrier, making it equally as cleanable as the core product. The main difference between the two comes down to the fact that the core Crypton product repels oil in addition to water.
While today’s climate has seen an increased investment in keeping surfaces clean, Crypton continues to provide cutting-edge technologies customized to every fiber and fabric. Engineered to resist liquids, water-based stains, oil-based stains, and odors, Crypton’s recalibrated core products can be counted on for their 99.9% fluorine-free formula as well as their disinfectable moisture barrier.
