Animal Print

Animal print is a motif that depicts the fur or skin of an animal. First prevalent in 1940s fashion as an inexpensive substitute for actual pelts, the treatment was ultimately embraced by interior designers, primarily for use in fabric but also embossed leather, flooring, surfaces, and wallcoverings. The most recognizable prints depict exotic jungle animals—cheetah, giraffe, jaguar, leopard, zebra—though more ordinary subjects such as cows or snakes are also popular.
