Etched

Etched refers to a fabrication process that is used to carve a design or pattern onto the surface of a hard material. The process can be accomplished with acid, sand, or laser techniques and can be applied to many materials, including glass, metal, leather, stone, tile, and wood. While similar to an engraving, the depth of cut for an etched design is significantly shallow, making it a viable option for thin materials.
