Hand tufted refers to a method of constructing carpet in which yarn is inserted or tufted into the carpet’s primary backing using a handheld tufting gun. After the yarns have been hand tufted onto the primary backing, a secondary latex adhesive backing is applied to provide strength and dimensional stability. This method is generally reserved for smaller custom orders, or high-end rugs, due to the higher cost and slower process when compared to machine tufting.
