Inlay

Inlay is a decorative technique that inserts pieces of contrasting materials into a depression or shallow surface in a base object to create an ornamental design, pattern, or picture. The inlaid material is usually made flush with the surface it has been added to. This technique is commonly seen in decorative furniture and can use a variety of materials, including wood, shells, glass, and precious metals.
