IS0 12947-2 Abrasion Resistance

The ISO 12947-2 Abrasion Resistance of Fabrics by the Martindale Method is a standard of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) that determines a textile’s ability to withstand abrasion using the Martindale method. This test method is used for wovens and nonwovens but is not used for coated fabrics or laminated fabrics. Abrasion resistance testing is one of several components used when assessing the durability and potential lifespan of a textile for upholstery use.

The scope of testing involves rubbing test specimens against a standard wool fabric abradant in elliptical-shaped rotations or cycles. Procedure requires that the species be checked at fixed intervals, assessed for change in appearance or damage, and then rated. The test is concluded when there is specimen breakdown.
