Live sawn is a cutting technique in which wood logs are sliced through directly without turning the log. This is considered the most efficient way to cut lumber as it yields little to no waste and utilizes the most out of a log. Live sawn cut lumber will have a high range in wood graining, including cathedral grain, heartwood, and sapwood, as well as a higher range of widths. On average, live sawn cut planks are wider than other sawn cut planks. Wood flooring planks can sometimes have a mix of live sawn and other sawn cut planks to create a more natural variation in appearance and size.
